More Than Ready is still making news, and for the right reasons, he continues to sire winners, evidence of that a running double at Randwick last Saturday.

Centre Pivot made it two wins on end for More Than Ready when he scored over 1800 metres.

The gelding has a pretty good strike rate, he hasn’t finished further back than second in his last six starts.

Centre Pivot could well get further being out of Waterwise, by Zabeel, and the family could be further enhanced as the dam has three foals yet to race, a colt and a filly are full relations to Centre Pivot and also a half brother by Testa Rossa.

The double was completed when Mihiri won the James Boag’s Premium Handicap over 1200 metres.

Mihiri is the produce out of the imported mare Danoise by Danehill, her two winners to date are both by More Than Ready.

Mossman was back in business at Hawkesbury during the week when Burnt Bridges, a winner over 1100 metres, while Excites claimed a winner in Sweet Serendipity on the same card.

The high spot at the Karaka Sales on Monday was the stylish looking bay colt with a pedigree as long as your arm by More Than Ready, out of Lovetrista, was knocked down to Peter Moody for $470,000.

His opened at $1.45 and it never altered, it was a case of odds on, and look on, there was no serious betting against him.

It was an excellent ride by James Winks, whilst running second for most of the way he allowed the colt plenty of time to balance up before asking for much.

Once the straight was entered Winks still had a lap of horse, it was then just a matter of how far.

Headwater has a great pedigree, he cost $500,000 as a yearling, he is by Exceed And Excel, Darley’s perennial money spinner, from River Dove, she won the Group1 Oakleigh Plate and she is line bred to Bletchingly 3X3, with three distinct lines to Star Kingdom.

The big studs in the Hunter Valley will be monitoring his progress closely as a future sire, the managing owner is the Vinery Stud Syndicate.

Headwater returning to scale under James Winks

Vinery sires remain at the forefront as the stud that is enjoying a great season, and maybe the best is yet to come.

This is the time of year when sires need to shine, with the Magic Million yearling sales commencing in the middle of next month on the Gold Coast.

Casino Prince continues to keep chipping away, a win at Canterbury last week, via Casino Dancer, and the win of Casino Swoop at Taree won’t do him any harm either.

Buyers will have the choice of five select yearlings at the Magic Millions Sales by Casino Prince; he does sire horses reflecting his own image.

Sam Kavanagh also produced a handy type at Canterbury when Centre Pivot, by the ever green More Than Ready, he easily accounted for a handy field, he may ultimately graduate to Saturday Company.

Congrats Going Places

Congrats is quickly gaining reputation as a prominent two year old sire in the northern hemisphere.  

Vinery’s champion sire, Congrats, has continued his sensational winning run with two year olds in Japan.

Gerbe d’Or, Kentucky bred colt, created a big impression winning in Japan, he was ridden by Melbourne Cup winning jockey, Ryan Moore.

Congrats has sired 16 individual juvenile winners from his first North American crop to race, and he is going to get full opportunity here, he will be represented with 22 lots to be sold at the Magic Millions Sales on the Gold Coast next month.
