Sistine Demon Just Loves Racing

Sistine Demon is a remarkable racehorse and surely entitled to more accolades than he receives.

He just loves racing, he thrives on it, his trainer, Andrew Noblet, spaces his race accordingly and the horse does the rest.

Who wants stable full horses when you can have one like Sistine Demon? He just keeps on giving of his best, there are no signs his winning is coming to an end, at least not yet.

He has now won seven of his last eight starts by leading most of the way, they did get a bit close to him at Flemington a couple of times but couldn’t get past him.

Trainer, Andrew Noblet is at the cross roads as to his next move with Sistine Demon, there are several options, it’s a matter of which one to take.

The gelding showed on Easter Saturday he has never been in better shape in winning the Victoria Handicap at his home track Caulfield.

Sistine Demon by Excites

He drew the widest gate at the 1400, hardly ideal, however, he made light of that, he was soon in front over the hill and controlled the traffic thereafter, winning by a conservative six lengths.

It is now decision time for Andrew Noblet, whether he goes to Brisbane or Adelaide with the gelding or waits for the spring.

Sistine Demon is by Excites; a sire that had limited racing yet was a Group 1 success and was placed at that level when finishing second to Wonderful World in the Caulfield Guineas.

Excites is the only son of Danewin at stud, he finished runner up in the both Derbies, the VRC and the A J C, after being poorly ridden each time.

The dam of Excites, Staging by Success Express, was an outstanding race mare and certainly a very good brood mare, she has produced three stakes winning sons in Duporth, Excites and Tickets, all are currently at stud.

Classic For Charlie

Myboycharlie claimed his first Group 1winner when Peggy Jean won the Sire’s Produce Stakes at Royal Randwick on Championship day.

It was quite a significant win suggesting that the progeny of Myboycharlie may be better off when given a little more additional time.

There can be variations in genetic patterns that speed lines do not always necessarily transmitt to the following generation.

Myboycharlie was the speed horse, he displayed the preciousness of his immediate male line, it took him to a new level as a racehorse when he won the prestigious Group 1 Prix Morny against a cracking field at delightful Deauville.

The success of Peggy Jean in the Royal Randwick classic is a definite pointer that she required a little further to give of her best.

Snowtop, the grand dam of Myboycharlie, was imported some years before her grandson, she met with quite some success when mated to Red Ransom, a very good sire during the period he stood at Vinery.

Spare a thought for Mossman

While all the accolades were for Mossfun on Saturday, and rightly so after a resounding win in the Golden Slipper Stakes at Rosehill, let’s not forget her sire, the perennial Mossman.

Mossman is a remarkable stallion, he is bordering on 19 of years age, a time when it would be expected the majority of stallions are scaling down, yet this old fellow is like the Mississippi, he just keeps rolling along ,he can still mix it with the best, as illustrated with the success of Mossfun .

He has retained his fertility and pre-potency, he is from a family that produced a Golden Slipper winner in Guineas.

Mossman originally stood at Peter Moran’s Noble Park Stud, at Innisplain, Queensland, before going to Vinery in the Hunter Valley.

His first season in the Hunter was almost a non event, he covered just 20 mares, soon after he suffered a severe attack of colic and was fortunate to have survived.

He showed the same tenacity in illness as he did when racing, he was tough as his race record shows, and his progeny display that same toughness as shown by Mossfun in the Slipper.

Mossman is by Success Express, his greatest claim to fame was his success in the Breeder’s Cup Juvenile Group 1 at Hollywood Park, his pedigree, you could walk away from, yet he would rate reasonably well as a sire when you include Polar Success, a Golden Slipper winner, Savannah Success and Staging into the mix.

Three top race mares, you cannot do much better than that, siring three Group 1 winning mares

The late Robert Holmes a’Court imported Success Express to stand at his palatial stud farm at Wallan, but that never came to fruition due to his premature death.

Success Express stood at several studs thereafter, but could never quite find a permanent home, he even stood in New Zealand for a time.

He was at Widden 11 years ago and had time at Vinery before fading away into obscurity.

Great Week For Vinery

Vinery is on the crest of a wave at present, or at least their sires are, with Mossman rising to the occasion with a Group 1 success to his credit when Miss Mossman won the New Zealand Oaks.

After her Group 1 win, needless to say there have been a few offers for the filly, but no one is in a hurry to dispose of her, certainly not at present.

She obviously has quite a bit of class, the Oaks was her third win, previously she had not won beyond 1400 metres, the additional 1000 metres was no problem to her as was shown, the winning margin was 2 ½ lengths.

Mossman has enjoyed a great season with the Group 1 Oaks, capping it off nicely, he is represented by just three yearlings in the Easter Sale with a filly and two colts, lot 520 is bred on the same cross as Miss Mossman.

More Than Ready is also having a productive season which will ensure his draft will be well sought after; he had a winner at Cranbourne during the week, followed by a double at Newcastle.

He is represented by 106 winners this season; his winning strike rate is 36.6 per cent, with progeny earnings of $4.691 million for the season.
