Sistine Demon To Shape Up AgainSistine Demon has taken no harm from his easy win at Flemington in the Western Health Handicap; he will go around again there on Saturday. His win was convincing enough to influence his trainer, Andrew Noblet, to go back for another serve at headquarters again after the Excites gelding led all the way, and never looked like stopping at any stage of the race. Excites, the sire of Sistine Demon, won the Group1 A J C Sires Produce Stakes, he was also runner up to Wonderful World in the Caulfield Guineas, he has a sound pedigree being by Danewin who was narrowly beaten in both the V RC and A J C Derbies. His dam, Staging, was a very good mare, her 10 wins were the races that counted, she just missed out on a Group 1, but you could not hold that against her, she was brave and honest. At stud she has been the proven producer, six foals to race and five winners, including Duproth, now at stud, Tickets and Succeeding, the dam of the champion juvenile in South Africa, Delargo Deluxe, now standing at Newhaven Park.
Sistine Demon, by Excites, winning at Flemington Buffering - The Iron HorseBuffering hasn’t always been taken seriously, always been there, a good horse but still something to prove. That has been erased; he is now the mega star since winning three Group 1s in succession. He was at his best in the Winterbottom Stakes, leading all the way but not with a great margin, conserving a bit for the run in, and boy did he need it? Moment Of Change was coming quickly, the tank was running dry for Buffering, but he saw it out as game as they come. The win completed a great year for Mossman and Vinery. Spring Has Sprung At VineryLeading New South Wales stud Vinery, home to All Too Hard, is enjoying a marvellous season with six of its sires figuring prominently among the winners over the past two weeks. The success rate has seen extraordinary results, it could not have been better with all the big guns firing. Reigning champion sire, More Than Ready, with progeny earnings of nearly $113 million to his credit, had to vacate centre stage, at least for the present, in preference to his stud mate Mossman. The success rate of Mossman over the spring has been overwhelming, with Buffering leading the way with his win in the $1 million Manikato Stakes, followed by the $1 million V R C Sprint Classic, and today he faces up to the half million dollar Winterbottam Stakes in Perth. Six sires achieving the ultimate over the spring is an outstanding performance in such a highly competitive industry as thoroughbred horse breeding. Mossman formerly stood in Queensland where he met with little patronage, since going to Vinery, under astute management he has found his niche, his recent spate of winners has been nothing short of sensational. Among his other winners were Dothraki, Plucky Belle, Absalo, Mossego and Mossmoney. More Than Read, the flagship of the team has been well represented, Better Than Ready, Get Pronto, Red Hanks, Idle Chat and Galway Warrior, all in the winner’s circle. Heart Testa, at Rosehill and Testamezzo in Adelaide, have both increased the winning numbers for the evergreen Testa Rossa. Last start Flemington winner, Longport, gets her chance to increase the success rate of her sire, Casino Prince when she faces the starter in the $1 million Railway Stakes in Perth later today. Sires Produce Stakes winner, Excites, claims attention with Excites Zelady, Schmacher and Sistine Demon, while Myboycharlie is a late inclusion, with Artistic Lass winning at Canterbury during the week. Buffering Does It For MossmanMossman has proved a great asset for Vinery; he has been the alternative for those that have had their reasons to bypass Danehill line sires. Breeders are a fickle lot, it all comes down to a matter of opinion, you will never please all of the people all of the time. As for Mossman, many would agree he has been a very much underrated sire, never always gaining the recognition he was fully entitled to, living in the shadow of his own sire, Success Express, then Red Ransom and More Than Ready. To his credit he has done a remarkable job, he needs no other advertisement than the evergreen sprinter Buffering Two Group 1 wins in succession, it does not get much better than that, with Buffering’s win in the Group 1 Manikako, followed up by the V R C Sprint Classic. Two Group 1 wins in succession two weeks apart, each worth a $1 million; it certainly increases the progeny earnings of Mossman this season. Mossman stems from the remarkable sire line of Princequillo, a very much sought after international sire line, his connections run back through Ireland, England, Belgium, France, Argentina and the United States. Princequillo stood much of his life at Claiborne, when Bull Hancock saw him win the Saratoga Cup as a three year old; he said to his father, A B Hancock Sr, “This is just one horse we’ve got to have.” Testa Rossa - Still going strongTesta Rossa, an excellent racehorse, a proven sire, yet has never received the recognition that he has so thoroughly deserved. He is one of those horses that have so often been taken for granted, now in his 17th year he is still going strong, as results show. There were some gems in his career as a racehorse, a good miler, winning the Group1 Emirates Stakes among his 13 wins. He was out in a good year, the same year as Redoute’s Choice, finishing second to him in the Blue Diamond Stakes and the Caulfield Guineas. There is a long list of winners sired by Testa Rossa, only last weekend he was responsible for the win of the two year old Unencumbered, at Randwick, and the seven year old, Test The Angels, a winner at far away Belmont Park in W A . His progeny earnings stand at $52.890 million, of that $40 million has been earned in Australia and $12.5 abroad, his progeny have now won in 15 different countries. Testa Rossa is by Perugino, a well related sire by Danzig, he shuttled for a couple of seasons to what was known then as Collingrove, at Nagambie. Perugino was sacked never to return again, however, when Testa Rossa showed brilliant form as an early two year old, an urgent S O S was sent to the U K to renew negotiations for another stint back at Collingrove. Testa Rossa did it all on the track and at Stud |
