New Sires for Sun Stud

Sun Stud has increased its stallion strength from to 9 to 11 with the inclusion of two new comers this season,[i]National Defense and Thronum.

Both are by million dollar speed sires, Thronum by the leading sire Snitzel, whose progeny earnings for the season stand at $27.128 million, and Natural Defense, he is by Invincible Spirit, sire of I Am Invincible, who has sired winners of $13.919million so far this season.

National Defense is a four year old son of Invincible Spirit, bred in Ireland, sold as a yearling   at the Arqana sales in France, for 260,000 Euros.

His dam, Angel Falls by Kingmambo, was unraced, she was a three quarter sister to Anna Palarivra, a half sister to Anna Salai , Iguazu Falls and Advice, all three were winners.

There is a lot of depth in the second remove, with a strong assortment of winners through Anna Palariva, she was by Caerleon, he was hampered with joint problems, he didn’t appear at two.

Anna Palariva won just the two races at 1600 metres, she was a half sister to Anceste, Aachen and Anshaam, she was the dam of 13 foals, 10 raced, 9 were winners.

National Defense was trained by Criquette Head, where training is completed through the forests on manicured tracks at Chantilly.

Whilst he was sparingly raced, having just the five starts, he was only out of a place once, winning twice, one at Group 1 level.

The Group 1 was over 1600 metres at Chantilly, the Prix Jean -Luc Lagasdere, the second win over the same distance at Deauville.

This is a dominant sire line that is achieving great results, it will be no surprise to see it continue.

Fighting Son in top 10

Fighting Sun is showing the way as the only Victorian based sire on the first season’s sire’s list, he is 7th on the list of 10, with 5 winners, including Chess Star, a stakes winner at Flemington.

He had untapped potential when he blitzed his rivals twice at Rosehill over 1100 metres, and was nominal favourite for forthcoming Golden Slipper Stakes when he suffered an injury that forced him from, potentially, a brilliant racing career.

Of course that has not affected his breeding career in the least, he was unbeaten as a racehorse and he is getting winners from his first crop to race, it is a very impressive record, the future is looking good for him.

Chess Star is his first Stakes Winner, Platinum Mam’selle 3rd Group 3 in New Zealand, Naduri, Miss Scorcher, Sunfighter and Fighting Harada are all winners.

Sun Stud to Consolidate in Victoria

Sun Stud has announced that the company will return its entire operation to its home base in Victoria.

“With the current lease agreement at the Queensland property concluding in May this year, the decision has been made to consolidate the business to the Victorian farm, which is owned by Sun Stud”, Managing Director, Danielle Cheng said.

“We are pleased to report that 7-time Victorian Champion sire Bel Esprit, and Queensland’s Champion first and second season, Love Conquers All, have arrived safely at Kerrie,”she said.

Bel Esprit requires no introduction he has the proven track record on the racetrack, and at stud.

He is credited with having won the Blue Diamond Stakes, the Doomben Ten Thousand, besides six other races, five were Stakes races.

Black Caviar stands out as the best horse he has sired, her unbeaten record is testament of that, however, let’s not overlook she earned $7,364,000, his progeny earnings would still stand at $50 million.

He is sure to be welcomed back into Victoria, joining him is Love Conquers All, he has proved a consistent sire of winners over some seasons.

Love Conquers All didn’t win a Group1, however, in this instance it hardly matters, he has Group 2 to his credit, and the all important factor, he is already a proven sire.

Love Conquers All is a strong bay horse with a lot of quality about him, he should not lack opportunities in Victoria.
