National Sale Grosses Record $144 Million
Records tumbled as the curtain was drawn on a spectacular, what could only be described as one of the most remarkable sales in the history of bloodstock, seen in this country.
The final selling comprising Book 2 Yearlings and Racehorses, grossed over $1.56 million to post a new record for the Southern Hemisphere premier breeding stock sale.
The total gross at the end of selling sat on $144,344,750, for 1636 lots sold.
This is a overall record smashing last year’s gross by $37 million, or 35 per cent.
The overall average for every lot sold, the National Weanling, Broodmare, Yearling and Racehorses Sales, is $88,230, up almost 15 per cent on last year, when fewer lots were offered.
Among the top sellers was an untried three year old filly by Stratum, from Melbourne Rose, who sold for $100,000, to recent Champagne winning trainer, Paul Perry.
Stock from Godolphin proved extremely popular at the National Racehorse Sale, with that draft’s top sellers including Saxophone, $65,000 to Rosemont Stud, Divine Sanction to $65,000 to Australian Bloodstock, and Fanforon, $50,000 to Rosemont Stud.
“It is great to see such strong competition today, it proved that live auction is the most effective way to market racehorses, “said Vic Cox, Magic Millions Director.
“The overall event has been an incredible success, with records tumbling across the board,” he added.
“We starting selling 15 days ago and in that time we’re seen many people come and go, everyone has played a significant role in the success of the sale,” he said.
Cox didn’t miss anyone, he paid compliments to the vendors and their staff, the Magic Millions team, bar staff, those attending to the grounds, including night crews, and a special mention to the transport companies and their staff, it was an unprecedented logistic exercise, to turn the place around three times is a fantastic performance he added.
The Magic Millions focus now switches west for the Perth Winter Yearling Thoroughbred and Racehorse Sales on June 25.
Entries are also open for the Gold Coast Two Year olds in Training Sale, to be conducted on October 10 and 11.
