Irrespective of increased prize money, and bonuses, it takes a super sire to reach that elusive nine digit figure in progeny earnings.

The only two sires here within that category, are Encosta de Lago and More Than Ready, with Redoute’s Choice about to join the threesome.

Quite a coincidence that Encosta de Lago covered his first book of mares in 1997, the year that More Than Ready was foaled.

More Than Ready has proved the ideal mate when joined to Danehill mares; it has long been a successful nicking pattern.

That was clearly illustrated with two classic winners in Benicio’s win in the V R C Derby, and the dual classic success of Dreamaway in the W A T C Derby and Oaks.

Saturday last saw him rise to the occasion again, when Infinite Magic won the Group 3 American Derby at Arlington Park in north west Chicago, in doing so it became the 117^th Stakes winner for the son of Southern Halo.

More Than Ready - A million dollar earner 

After missing a season due to an injury, shuttle sire, Big Brown, returns to Vinery in the middle of next month for the 2013 breeding season.

He has made a sensational transition from the racetrack, to the breeding barn, in such a short space of time as he was foaled in 2005.

His race record is well documented, seven wins from just eight starts, the best three year old in North America, laying claim to the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes, the first two legs of the triple crown.

With 36 individual winners to date, Big Brown has emerged as a serious progenitor in the northern hemisphere.

Shades of Sugar, from the first crop is an exciting filly, she has scored in Listed company and could easily graduate to a Group win on what she has shown.

It could be interesting to see which filly achieves Group level first Bella Castani, or Shades of Sugar, both have won at Listed level, the latter’s two wins have been recorded each by eight lengths.

Big Brown is already an international success, with winners in North America, Canada, Europe and Japan, where he has had four starters for four individual winners.

Among them Apollo Sonic, placed in the Group1 Japan Derby, while this week’s JHRA Select Sales, in Japan, saw a weanling sold for $A 217,371.

Fifteen yearlings by Big Brown, at the Magic Millions in January, were sold for a total of $1.46 million an average of almost $100,000.  

Vinery has increased its stallion strength with the announcement that Casino Prince, and Husson, will be taking up residence at the renowned stud, in the Hunter Valley.

Both are already proven sires, each has the score on the board, it is now upwards from here on.

It is exciting times for Vinery, with the inclusion of Casino Prince and Husson to stand alongside More Than Ready, Testa Rossa, Mossman and congrats, all have left an indelible mark as successful sires, while waiting in the wings, for his first season, is the proven weight for age performer, All Too Hard.

The negotiation to secure both young sires that have so much to offer has been a master stroke by the management of Vinery.

Casino Prince’s oldest progeny are rising four year olds, he is already credited with four Stakes performers in multiple Group l success, All Too Hard, Escado, South Australia Derby winner, Longport and Sookie.

Over two seasons he has 42 winners to his credit, and 38 place getters, earning $5,740,000 in prize money.

His sire, Flying Spur, was clearly among the better performed sons of Danehill, as a racehorse he won a Golden Slipper Stakes and sired a Slipper winner, reaching the ultimate as a sire with progeny earnings in excess of $103 million.

Casino Prince was not short of talent, when raced he recorded five wins in the best of company, capturing that elusive Group 1 in the weight for age Chipping Norton Stakes, over the mile at Randwick.

Husson can lay his claim, being described as a champion by South American standards, there is no point in arguing about that, furthermore, he never suffered defeat in five starts.

He completely refutes his male line, being by Hussonet who had a great turn of foot, as most of his progeny have inherited.

The top line emphasist is on speed, yet speed is not necessarily the principle ingredient that Husson portrays to his off spring.

He is getting progeny that can perform at a mile or better, with a winner in Peru at 2000 metres, 1800 metres in Argentina and 1600 metres in Australia.

To date Husson has sired 51 winning progeny, and seven Stakes winners, with prize money topping $2.0 million, both Husson and Casino Prince were foaled in 2003.

Vinery offers a wide selection of 13 sires to choose from, to suit the discerning breeder.

Keeping a great sire down is particularly hard if he has winners to his credit of over $100 million, and is still at the top of his game.

That’s More Than Ready, one of the few international sires that are the ultimate success in both hemispheres.

Foaled in 1997, by Southern Halo, a sire line noted for its early maturity, siring two Golden Slipper winners in Sebring and Phelan Ready.

He remains the pride of Vinery in the Hunter Valley at Scone, where the latest addition to the stallion roster, All Too Hard, is waiting in readiness to commence his season at stud.

While the new kid on the block is coming for a lot of attention, like the man with the barrow, he has the job in front of him to dethrone the lord of the manor.

Last week-end was significant for Vinery, with More Than Ready represented by two winners, Juliet’s Princess at Morphettville, and Galaxy Prince, scoring at Belmont Park in Perth.

It was also a red letter day for Testa Rossa, siring his 500^th individual winner, a mile stone certainly worthy of recognition.

Tessa Rossa commenced his stud career at Yallambee Stud in Victoria, before being located to Vinery, overall he has sired 45 Stakes winners earning $50,853,583, almost $12 million of that was earned in France and Asia.

Excites, also found his way into the action, when Minh Khai won at Warwick Farm a few days earlier.

He is a handy sire getting his share of winners, he won the Sires Produce Stakes at Randwick and ran some notable placings in Stakes races, he is a son of Danewin, a dual Derby placegetter, from Staging, an outstanding race mare, plus a proven stud matron, best described as the perfect dual purpose mare.    

The More Than Ready Handicap, over the past week at Warwick Farm, provided a fitting result with the winner, Party Dress, being by the evergreen sire, Mossman.

A few punters may have been aware of the significance as both More Than Ready and Mossman are prominent sires at Vinery, in the Hunter Valley at Scone.

Those that may have supported Party Dress enjoyed a nice result, she paid $8.00.
