The transition from racecourse to stud can be daunting with speculation whether the subject, (the sire), is as well received at stud as he was on the racecourse.

It’s all a new playing field now, even the rules are different, on the racecourse he dominated with his own sheer ability that will to win.

He will now be scrutinised by potential breeders on his racecourse ability, his pedigree, and his type, while good looking women turn heads, so do thoroughbreds.

All Too Hard has those qualities, he ticks all the boxes, in fact he has been doing that for quite some time.

He goes to stud with a quality book of mares to support him, he will not lack opportunity at the top level, he is destined for a great future at a highly professional stud.

Among the mares he will cover include the following.

SCARLET LADY (Queensland and N Z Oaks winner)

JESTER JEWEL (dam of Pamperlon)

FASHIONS AFIELD (Champion 2 YO)

MIDNIGHT MARTINI (Street Cry mare Won Gr. VRC Matriarch Stakes)

MADAM FLURRY (Dam of Gr. 1 winner Happy Trails)

DAWN ALMIGHTY Dam of NZ outstanding Gr.1 2yo of this season Ruud Awakening)

SACRET CHOICE Multiple Group winner including the Gr.1 Doncaster and Gr1 Myer Classic

NIGHT WAR winner Gr 2 Karrakatta Plate Half sister to Samaready

As Mossman, now 18 years of age and facing up to his 13th season, has always come up with a promising horse.

Whilst Buffering, doesn’t quite fit that category, he is the proven performer, his class will take him a fair way to winning the Carlton Doomben 10,000.

If there is any chink in the armour of the favourite, Our Song, he could be the one to find it; he is a pretty smart customer on his day.

Mossman, the sire of Buffering, was a good colt with a touch of class; he could easily have been a champion in the best of his age.

He won four of his 22 starts and ran nine placings in most of the major three year old events, that could have been the measuring stick in the assessment of a champion.

All Too Hard Retired

A decision to retire All Too Hard, immediately, was reached between shareholders and the Hawkes team of Michael, Wayne and father, John, trainers of the horse.

The colt had nothing further to prove, he ticked all the boxes, he now goes to stud at Vinery with a pretty impressive race record.

Sure, he could have gone to Royal Ascot, or he could have done this or that, but in the light of day was it really necessary?

All Too Hard won the races that count, weight for age races to 1600 metres, you don’t have to get any further to establish a sire.

He commences his stud career in his youth as a four year old, everything is ahead of him, he will receive the support he so richly deserves.

Furthermore, he will be well let down before the season begins, he is going to make into a very attractive four year old entire.

He could have possibly raced on for another season, or even two, but when there is a price tag on him of $25 million you don’t take risks.

“We are obviously very disappointed to see All Too Hard retire, but we understand it is the owner’s decision,” said John Hawkes.

“It was a difficult decision, as well for us, to retire a colt with so much more to offer as a racehorse,” said Vinery Stud’s General Manager Peter Orton.

“All Too Hard has done all we could have asked for and more, he is the most exciting stud prospect I have seen in many years,” he added.

All Too Hard will stand for $66,000 service fee, and the way bookings are being received there will be a waiting list shortly.

While the Golden Slipper was run at Randwick yesterday, in way off Perth the Group 3 WA Oaks was about to be decided.

The result was a great success for Vinery with the winner, Moreish, being by the resident sire, More Than Ready.

Already the sire of two Golden Slipper winners in Phelan Ready and Sebring, the son of Southern Halo is siring progeny winning classics over 2400 metres.

With progeny earnings exceeding over $100 million he is currently in a league of his own, few sires ever achieve that figure.

He has 31 yearlings to represent him at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, including colts from the Golden Slipper winner, Polo Success, and the V R C Oaks winner, Samantha Miss.
