Mossman Filly Tops Gold Coast Sale

Lot 363 caught the eye of trainer Mick Mair and that was it, he was in there for the long haul, finally he won the day parting with $180,000 for the stylish looking filly by Mossman.

Mick has had a heap of luck with the family and that is likely to continue, he had to contend with some strong opposition from around the ring, he was resilient, he was not going away, he finally got the last nod in.

She is a nice filly, and being by Mossman, who has already sired a Golden Slipper winner in Mossfun.

The filly is the last foal of The Spear, a Brisbane winning Lion Hunter mare, she had already produced a Group performer in Fast Arrow.

She was one of three individual lots to sell for $100,000 or more, the other star filly of the day was the Hussonet – Morinda Youngster from Jorson Farm, purchased by David Vandyke for $120,000.

A colt by Real Saga, from Lyndhurst Stud Farm, sold for $100,000, the sale grossed over $8.3 million with the average price, $28,420.

“Special mention has to be made of James Dawson, who worked tirelessly on this sale in accumulating a great buying bench, and doing a huge amount behind the scenes, “ said Vin Cox, managing director of Magic Millions Sales.

Husson on top at Gold Coast

Husson took the honours on Saturday at the Gold Coast siring two winners, thus increasing his progeny earnings by $ 1.388 million.

The principle Group1 winner, Lucky Hussler, trained by Darren Weir, lumped the steadier of 60 kgs to account for the field, winning the Jewel Magic Millions Cup.

Glen Boss had the Toorak Handicap winner poised on the home turn for his assault, it was a matter of getting a clear passage and the issue would soon be dispensed with.

The Payne team of Michelle and Patrick combined to land Husson Eagle, a comfortable winner in the Myer Magic Millions Sprint, to provide the sire, Husson, with a double for the day.

It proved a great day for Vinery with Buffering, by the ever green Mossman, adding to a highly successful day for the leading Hunter Valley Stud.

Husson retired to stud with an unbeaten record, winning at all of his five starts in the Argentine, where he was champion two year old colt and then champion miler.

He followed his own sire, Hussonet, who was meeting with much success here, he has inherited the speed of his own sire, and grand sire, Mr Prospector.

In fact Husson has a double cross of Mr Prospector in his pedigree, which is a sound speed influence

Local Breeder Triumphs Again

The one million dollar Kingston Town Classic, at Ascot WA, was a triumph for owner breeder Bob Peters when he quinellered the race with Perfect Reflection and Delicacy, by the shortage possible margin, a nose.

Perfect Reflection kept her winning sequence intact having won at all of her five starts, and the only three year old to have won the race.

Without taking any gloss from the winner, Delicacy was a bit stiff, she had to come from last, it was a tremendous run as she still had half the field in front her on the home turn, and blocked for a run into the bargain.

However, there were no complaints from Vinery, in fact it was a coup for the leading New South Wales based stud when full sisters, Ideal Image won the Jungle Dawn Classic and Perfect Reflection the Kingston Town Classic.

The dam of the full sisters, Reflected Image by Bluebird, has a colt on the ground by Hard Spun and is believed to be in foal to Americain.

Winners Flow on for Vinery

With a spate of winners over the week end Vinery is riding on the crest of a wave, More Than Ready’s double at Ascot, WA, was the icing on the cake.

More Than Ready is well represented with a highly promising draft of 18 lots over the five sessions of the Magic Millions Sales, commencing January 6.

Casino Prince is also on a winning spree when the six year old, Slots, saluted at Doomben after showing good form in Sydney.

While Danz The Man, a four year old gelding by Mossman, came under notice with a comfortable win over 1400 metres at Hawkesbury.
