When Sandiro stepped out onto the course at Warwick Farm during the week he was friendless in the betting, quoted at $151, and possibly longer, as the field jumped away.

He ran accordingly out the back, never a chance at any stage, any dreams one may had for him were long shattered.

However, he was a conspicuous figure in the colours of gold, green sleeves and cap that were registered to the late Charles Kallow, who had the Rolls Royce agency in Melbourne.

Along with his trainer, Jack Holt, they formed a highly successful partnership during the depression years.

Heroic was the star of the team, followed by Hall Mark, Nuffield, Pure Gold, and the very good filly, Gallantic.

While Sandiro finished near last, the race was won by Supreme Warrior, syndicated by Brad Spicer, trained by Leon Corstens and ridden by Michael Rodd.

Lloyd Showcases His Armament

Signs that spring is just around the corner were evident on Saturday at Flemington, when Lloyd Williams galloped five of his likely stars between races.

Naturally the horses are not fully wound up yet; however, they will be strong contenders in what promises to be an exciting spring.

The first trial, between race one and two, featured Masked Marvel, Sea Moon and Seville.

While the three finished on terms, Sea Moon was quite impressive, had Brett Prebble kicked him up he would have drawn away beyond any doubt.

The gallop over 1800 metres was nothing more than a canter until the 1000 metres was reached, it was then on in earnest, the 1000 metres was run in 1:04.20, 800 metres in 48.35, 600 metres in 35.85 , last 400 metres in 23.72, coming home the final 200 metres in 12.07.

Sea Moon is a top racehorse as his record shows, he has amassed $1,027,181 in winning the races that count, among his five wins were the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes at Ascot, the Goodwood Listed Tapster Stakes, the Group 2 Great Voltigeur Stakes at York, and placed in the Breeders Cup and English St Leger at Doncaster, both Group1 races.

Sea Moon is a serious racehorse with a great pedigree, being by Beat Hollow, a son of Sadlers Wells, from a winning daughter of Alleged in Eva Luna, she is a Group winning mare that has produced six to race, five are winners.

His spring mission is likely to include the Cox Plate and the Melbourne Cup.

They finished the last 200 metres off in 11.85, slightly better than the first gallop.

Green Moon looked a treat, he sparkles when he gets to headquarters ,he is a genuine Flemington horse, ridden by Brett Prebble, he is on track for another good spring

Adelaide Form Stands Up

There is nothing wrong with Adelaide form, as was shown when Pocket Rockets stormed down the Flemington stretch, to lay claim to the Robert Eldridge and Lesley Millson Handicap.

The six year old gelding’s trainer, Tony McEvoy, is on a roll at present, certainly since he opened up a stable at Hawkesbury in Sydney.

McEvoy was quite jubilant about the win, making it three on end, twice in Adelaide before coming over to Flemington.

The trainer didn’t miss the jockey, Kayla Nisbet, either “that ride was a 12 out of 10, just a super ride” he said.

She found the best passage up the straight, and that is where she stayed, she never altered her course.

The straight seemed a bit strange to Chiaramonte, he shifted ground at a crucial stage, thus allowing Pocket Rockets to get up on his inside.

He is a knockout to look at, with a great pedigree; he could be a sire prospect provided he wins a couple of Stakes races.

His program is not firmly locked in, his next run could be at Caulfield, around the turn may be more suitable.

The favourite Prettyhappyaboutit was disappointing after winning the Listed Lightning Stakes at Morphettville, she never gave her supporters much of a sight.

Resistant To Race On

There is no break in sight for Resistant following his win in the Margo Harland & Margaret Eades Handicap at Flemington.

Whilst that was the colt’s second win in seven starts, he has been consistent filling four minor placings.

He took up a prominent position and was always travelling well; inform apprentice, Patrick Moloney, always seemed to have the situation under control.

Resistant went into the race as a fit horse, that was demonstrated after pouncing on the leader, Salute To Jude, after heads were turned for home.

Punters were well off the mark when they put their faith in Mahican, installing him a $3.80 favourite, on the strength of finishing sixth, in a field of nine, back in March at Warwick Farm.

Resistant should have been the logical favourite, all the form was around him, yet he got under the guard of the astute punters and gave the bookies a result.

There are no spring plans for him, that was his fifth run in this campaign, while he holds his form and licking the bin clean, he will remain in work, there is the chance of picking up another race or two before the better performed three year olds come on the scene.

The Girls In Favour With Trainers

You won’t hear many complaints from trainers about female jockeys, one in particular, Barry Fox, trainer of Bonne Nuit, was high in his praise of Katelyn Mallyon with another superb ride.

She won on the mare at Moonee Valley last week and rode much the same sort of race again at Flemington, allowing the mare to settle down before applying any pressure.

The key to the mare could be keeping her fresh; she didn’t visit the track between both races, instead just pottered about the stable.

Being a clean winded she doesn’t require a lot work; she saves all her energy for race day.

“Katelyn rides the mare well,” said Barry “the girls seem to be more patient than the boys, they ride their mounts much quieter,” he added.
