Where The Winners WereWhere The Winners Were Week Ending 5---5—2018 I Victory by Mossman at Sha Tin 22 Winners for the Week Headwater a definite chance as a SireOnce seen, never forgotten, that was the impression created, when Headwater skipped over the 1000 metres of the Kensington Stakes at Flemington. He won a further two races, including the Silver Slipper Stakes Group 2 at Rosehill, and a 1000 metres race at Moonee Valley. Headwater covered a full book of mares in his first season 2016; his first foals are impressive, inheriting the good looks of their sire. His pedigree leaves little to be desired, his sire, Exceed and Excel, was an exceptional racehorse, winning seven times from twelve starts, including the Newmarket Handicap, the premier sprint, and the unforgettable speed he displayed in winning the Invitation Stakes over 1400 metres, leading throughout. Exceed and Excel has shuttled more than once to the United Kingdom with much success, he was a very good racehorse and has excelled as a sire, he is credited with 10 Group 1’s and 130 Stakes winners, and over $129 million in progeny earnings. Headwater has an impressive female dam line through River Dove; she won 8 races, including the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate. The pedigree and family is abounding with speed that is what our racing is becoming, the early bird catches the worm, it is all about an early return. There is no room for the slow early stayers, they are now left behind, it is speed that the market place wants now. Headwater fits that requirement, he had the speed, and he is stamping his foals in his own image.
