Big Brown Salutes At Rosehill Gardens
Brown Bomber scored a knock out for his sire, Big Brown, winning in great style over 1800 metres at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.
With the two year old season beginning to close the Sydney juvenile races are being stretched out further in distance, it caters more for the later maturing juveniles that may develop into staying types.
Melbourne race clubs have a different view, young horses are not encouraged to the same extent, there are far too many races got up for squibs.
Big Brown is a Kentucky Derby winner, he also won the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico in Maryland, both are legs of the Triple Crown, and at Group1 level, generally won by the proven staying horses.
His race record is sound, he only contested the better races of his age group, winning seven of his eight starts, he was the champion of his season.
His oldest progeny here are two years olds, whereas in the U S he has three year olds with an impressive winning strike rate of 50 per cent.
Brown Bomber showed the qualities of a stayer, he came into the race nicely, drawing away to win with a bit in hand.
