Life has never been a bed of roses for Saab Hasan, he has worked hard for what he has, and darn hard at that.

Everything is for the horses, he trains, he has a few slow ones, every trainer will own up to that, training can be a frustrating occupation.

Saab is a battler and a hard worker, he puts in the hard yards, yet doesn’t always get the appreciation that he deserves.

He does most of the work around the stable, with the assistance of his father, each afternoon the horses get a regular pick of grass at Flemington.  

He had a big day at Caulfield on Saturday, the one that he so richly deserves when Shoreham won the Group 3 Easter Cup, over 2000 metres, aided by a long sustained run on the rails.

Daniel Moor carried out the riding instructions to the letter; it was a very good ride as he never went around a single horse in the race.

He could easily repeat the performance, if he puts his best foot forwards, as he did in the Easter Cup on Saturday.

There was a Shoreham racing back in the early fifties; he went to America after running second to Hydrogen in the Victoria Derby.    

Lightning struck twice over the Easter week-end, at Stawell, when Spearhead won for the stable.

Yarraman Park’s super sire, I Am Invincible, was right on the ball at Warwick Farm yesterday, siring the three placegetters of the Sledmere Stud Plate, taking his progeny earnings to $11,046,628, with 117 individual winners of 185 winners, including 18 stake winners.

Those that follow racing would applaud the decision of Chris Waller, and the owners of Winx, as she will remain in Australia for a possible fourth win in the W S Cox Plate at Moonee Valley in late October.

Nothing would have been gained by going to Royal Ascot really, the timing was all wrong; she is accustomed to being rested during the winter and summer, nothing is going to change now.

Waller is a great trainer that is a proven fact; he has nursed the champion through a marvellous career, with 24 wins on end.

She will wind up her autumn campaign in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes over 2000 metres, at Royal Randwick over the Easter carnival.

Winx has only raced at carnival time, spring and autumn, she has reached the pinnacle, there is nothing further for her to prove.

Waller has been kind to her, she has always had those long extended breaks from racing, that has been a major factor in her successful career, she has never been punished.

Cambridge based trainer, Tony Pike, is setting his sights on his two fillies, Caricature and Terra Sancta, both performed to his satisfaction in the New Zealand Oaks, and are on target for the Australasian Oaks in Adelaide next month.

“They both ran really well in the New Zealand Oaks, Caricature did a lot of work early in the race for the first 1000 metres, she fought on bravely to finish fourth to three pretty talented fillies.”

“She has come a long way in a short time, I couldn’t have been happier with her, and Terra Sancta was a 100-1 chance, she was coming off an unusual preparation to get there, she got a long way back in the field, however, her race sectionals were some of the best in the race.”
