Girl In Flight Delivers
Girl In Flight was put to the test by her trainer, Robbie Griffiths, in the Leigh Thomas Gift, to see if she could get a mile.
The aim is to stretch her out to a mile if possible and look for a Black Type race in the future with her.
She went into the race unbeaten after two runs at the provincials, the latest win being at Sale over 1400 metres.
There is a fair bit of hype about her in the pre markets, nothing better was offered than $2.30, you may have received $10 in running when she was tailed off last, with 800 metres to run.
She soon went to the leaders, when the straight was entered nothing could match her in the run home, summing up an impressive win.
Whether she will have another run this campaign is yet to be decided, the long range plan is to take her to Adelaide for the May carnival.
Being a late foal there was never any intention to try her early, she has been taken along quietly by Robbie Griffiths, his patience is being rewarded, the filly has returned her purchase price of $60,000 paid for her as a yearling.
The win broke a run of placings for Griffiths over the spring; his horses have been running well without much luck, now might be the time to follow him.
Girl In Flight can get a mile with ease
Mare Races In Foal
Kukla, who was engaged in last Saturday’s Blackwoods Apex Tools Handicap, was in foal when she raced.
She was last covered on 19th October 2013; she would have barely had a 45 day scan when she raced.
Under the provisions of AR64 E (1), the mare will be permitted to race until Wednesday 12th of February 2014.
The late Colin Hayes didn’t mind racing a mare in foal, up to a certain stage, one example was the Oakleigh Plate winner, Scarlet Bisque, he may have even tried Special, the results were never published.
Did It For Mum
Emotional scenes greeted Sensational Report when she returned to scale after winning the Carpet Call Handicap at Caulfield.
The eight year old mare is owned and trained by Dianne Wynne and ridden by her daughter Sally they were due for a celebration while Dianne couldn’t remember her last winner she is not likely to forget this one in a hurry.
“We have been pushing along we have been having a bit of a bad run lately there were a comments from neighbouring strappers that the mare was looking like her old self again “ she said.
Maybe they were the speckers that backed her as she came in from $61 to $41 but was still the outsider in the field at that quote.
Sensational Report
There are no future plans for her at this stage similar type of racers about that should suit her coming into the holiday season.
That was her seventh win in 56 starts with 15 placings taking her stake earnings to nearly $ 300,000.
Sensational Report is by the American bred All Chatter he won at Saratoga a Group 2 race her did little at stud here in his defence it has to be questioned the quality of mares he covered.
Mother and daughter - Something to celebrate
Nordic Empire Magic Millions Bound
Nordic Empire has booked his passage for the Magic Millions next month after a stylish win at Caulfield yesterday.
Word was about that the colt had a bit on his stable mate Geromayo who had finished second in the Magic Millions Classic at Ballarat.
That was vindicated when Nordic Empire made a one act affair of the race coming from mid field on the home turn to win running away.
The win completed a training for Mick Price he seldom misses out on a winner at Caulfield he has an excellent strike rate at “The Heath”
Both Nordic Empire and Geromayo will go to Wyong for the Millions on December 19 it will be further experience racing to the clockwise direction before their mission the Magic Millions on the Gold Coast.
Nordic Empire was a $75,000 purchase at the Adelaide Magic Millions Sale he is by Wilander who promised so much as a sire when he went to Lindsay Park an outstanding pedigree an excellent book of matrons to service but alas it was just not to happen.
A low sperm count was the deciding factor a horse with such great prospects was a failure he was no longer a commercial venture he was withdrawn from service after one season.
Brilliant win by Nordic Empire
Champion Jumps Jockey First City Winner
Former champion jumps jockey, Brett Scott, was on cloud nine after training his first city winner, Coronation Shallan, winning the final race at Moonee Valley on Saturday.
The ex New Zealander is putting together a nice team at Mornington, with Coronation Shallan having top billing
She is improving with each run going from strength to strength, from five starts she has now won three times and placed second twice.
Bred on the Mornington Peninsular by Tony and Julie Biddle, they have a selective breeding pattern that is working quite well for them, allowing their horses to grow out before any quick decisions.
Coronation Shallan winning impressively under Daniel Stackhouse
Two year old racing is not on the agenda, never has nor likely to be, breeding to race is the preferred option.
The choice of Strategic was perfect for Coronation Crystal, it has worked well with the result being Coronation Scallan, she is a lovely mare and was the pick of the yard, a mare with a lot of quality.
Her performance was impressive, from a centre draw she had to travel wide for the majority of the trip, yet she continued to make up ground.
It was a big run, she did all the hard work in running, yet was coming away on the line, Daniel Stackhouse can be proud of his ride.
