Darley’s Quick Decision
Darley didn’t take long to make a decision after Peter Snowden visited the Flemington stables earlier this week.
Recent two year old winners, Safeguard the colt, has gone up to Warwick Farm where he will have a short let up before being prepared for the Golden Slipper Stakes, while the filly, Montsegur, an impressive Caulfield winner, will remain in Melbourne, her mission being the Blue Diamond Stakes.
Both are brilliant two year olds, a cut above what we have seen so far this season, and the stable is not likely to run short on numbers with several youngsters yet to race.
Montsegur really caught the eye at Caulfield on Boxing Day; she got a little hot in the pre post parade, without hesitation Paul Snowden called in another attendant to assist with the filly.
Montsegur set for Blue Diamond
She is the first winner sired in Australia by New Approach, an outstanding racehorse winning eight of his 11 starts, who has made the transition as a likely successor to his sire, Galileo.
Both sire and son are Epsom Derby winners, yet that is where the similarity ends, Galileo best results are at beyond a mile, whilst his son, New Approach, whose average winning distance was 1700 metres, is getting precocious two year olds.
No further evidence was required during the Royal Ascot week in June, New Approach sired three Black Type two year old winners..
Dawn Approach won the Coventry Stakes, Newfangled the Albany Stakes and Tha’ir the Chesham Stakes
