Girl In Flight Delivers
Girl In Flight was put to the test by her trainer, Robbie Griffiths, in the Leigh Thomas Gift, to see if she could get a mile.
The aim is to stretch her out to a mile if possible and look for a Black Type race in the future with her.
She went into the race unbeaten after two runs at the provincials, the latest win being at Sale over 1400 metres.
There is a fair bit of hype about her in the pre markets, nothing better was offered than $2.30, you may have received $10 in running when she was tailed off last, with 800 metres to run.
She soon went to the leaders, when the straight was entered nothing could match her in the run home, summing up an impressive win.
Whether she will have another run this campaign is yet to be decided, the long range plan is to take her to Adelaide for the May carnival.
Being a late foal there was never any intention to try her early, she has been taken along quietly by Robbie Griffiths, his patience is being rewarded, the filly has returned her purchase price of $60,000 paid for her as a yearling.
The win broke a run of placings for Griffiths over the spring; his horses have been running well without much luck, now might be the time to follow him.
