Positions Reversed
Casquets made the necessary improvement after being placed at Moonee Valley to win the Talindert Stakes at Flemington.
She went into the race as a maiden and came out with Black Type, increasing her residual value about ten fold.
After settling back in the field she produced a well sustained run to reach the lead 200 metres out, only to be challenged by Annenberg, making a determined bid to run her down.
Both fillies had been placed behind Gregers at Moonee Valley, she has not been seen out since that win.
Casquets wins Talindert Stakes
Casquets carries the same set of colours as the stable star, Atlantic Jewel; both are by premier sire, Fastnet Rock, trained by Mark Kavanagh on behalf of Coolmore.
Both fillies, Casquets and Annenberg, were noticeable drifters in the market after a flood of money came for Hailin Diamonds, she played a prominent role early in the race but had enough long before the post was reached.
Politeness also blew out in the market, a lot different to when she was sent out odds on favourite at Moonee Valley.
The win provided the first leg of a winning double for Stephen Baster since arriving back from Singapore, and Mark Kavanagh whose stable has made a promising beginning for a successful autumn.
