Delicacy had racing historians scurrying through old race books, turf annuals and old newspaper clippings, but not a single sign to equal the record of the outstanding filly from the West.

Two Derbies, two Oaks, throw in a Guineas and 10 wins from 14 starts; it cannot get any better than that.

Prior to the home turn on the spacious Morphettville track she went from odds on favourite, to a $10 chance of even running a place.

Bob Peters has hinted the filly may go around again next week in the Group 3 South Australian Classic run over 2500 metres.

Not a good idea Bob, you can take the pitcher to the well once too often, she needs a break now and wait for the spring.

Blake Shinn, a former star apprentice, is no stranger to riding winners, he has been doing it for quite a bit of late, but five winners at Doomben was something very special.

His late dad, Gerald, was a star apprentice in Sydney, among a lot of good jockeys about in that era, Jack Thompson, Neville Sellwood George Mulley , Ray Selkrig and co.

Lumosty Wins In A Breeze

Lumosty took a dive in betting, fooling the so called experts in winning the All Victorian Sprint Series at Flemington on Saturday.

She was a pronounced favourite on Friday night at $3.20, yet on course she was replaced by Reparations as favourite.

Fortunately Lumosty had no knowledge of the melodrama, all she knows is how to gallop, and she does it very well.

Ridden by Chris Parnham, he was in no hurry to exert the filly early, biding his time until they reached the course proper.

From thereafter there were no doubts about the issue, she had class on her side drawing away to win by three lengths.

It was a good first up appearance since finishing sixth in the Oaks at Flemington, won by Set Square.

She will be back at Flemington again in two weeks, from there a firm decision will be made whether she then goes to Queensland for the Group 2 Dane Ripper Classic, over 1400 metres at Eagle Farm.

That would be the ideal wind up for her this preparation, from there whether she follows the same pattern as Mosheen, who was raced in the same interests and heads to Japan, may be a shade premature at this stage.

Superstar Ready to Reappear

Champion French mare, Treve, the best of her sex in the world, is preparing for her third assault on the Prix De L’Arc De Triomphe at Longchamp in mid October.

She worked at Chantilly earlier this week pleasing her trainer, Criquette Head-Maarek, owner, Sheikh Joaan Al Thani’s, racing advisor Harry Herbert, as she stepped up a gear in readiness for her reappearance in the Group 2 Prix Corrida at Saint-Cloud on May 29.

Treve is already a dual winner of the Arc, with everything going along nicely her team are optimistic she can win it again this year and create history.

Her ultimate value as a brood mare will be astronomical, not that she is ever likely to come onto the market.

Treve was foaled in 2010, by Motivator, a son of Montjeu, from Trevise by Anabaa, her six wins have been from 1600 to 2400 metres.

Saint- Cloud is quite a popular racing venue for Parisians, with over sixty meetings per season, which begins in February.

Early Double For Flemington Stable

The training partnership of Matthew Ellerton and Simon Zahra, were on the ball early with the first leg of a winning double, when Bel Chandon scored a rather easy win in the Phar Lap Club Plate at Flemington.

When Matthew Ellerton was questioned by the media how she came to be beaten at Terang, it was just shrugged off as just one of those things that can happen in racing.

With the Terang affair cast aside she left no doubts at Flemington, she finished gamely from last putting the issue in no doubt long before the post was reached.

With her maiden status now broken with quite an authoritative win, it will be no surprise if she shapes up again at the same venue in two weeks.

Her jump outs are an indication she will get further, and coming from near last on Saturday was an impressive effort.

There was little money for the winner, she drifted in the market, where as Nadawaat was the pronounced shortener, but really did not do a great deal.

The winner of the second leg of the stable double, Face Forward, was always prominent in the firing line, scraping the paint off the outside rail in winning the Patricia Vagg Handicap.

After she drew the outside Katelyn Mallyon allowed the filly to run along, there was no point in dragging her about.

The filly responded well and was a clear leader when the field came onto the course proper; she was trouble free at that stage.

Betting looked a bit strange when Chiavari was sent out as favourite, while Fast Forward drifted; the position was much the same when they met at Flemington the last time.

Fast Forward will be back at Flemington in two weeks, she is becoming a specialist on the straight six surface.

Wanted is beginning to hit his straps for the right reasons, he is siring winners as we originally expected; it has just taken a little longer.

He is now up and going with large black letters alongside his name, that he has been credited with his first stakes winner, Dead Or Alive, at Morphettville last Saturday.

He was quite adaptable at the mile, which suggests it is high time that the Melbourne race clubs gave up the system of catering for quarter horse racing.

Robert Smerdon’s patience was rewarded when Dangerous Breeding opened her winning account at her very first start at Warrnambool, earlier in the week.

A $70,000 purchase at last year’s Inglis Sales she hasn’t been hurried along, time is beginning to pay dividends.

Being by Wanted, who showed his best at three winning the Newmarket Handicap, plus his sire, Fastnet Rock, did not get a lot of early two year olds either.

Dangerous Breeding was among the draft presented at the sales by Eliza Park, she is a good type of filly with a touch of quality, she is likely to step out in town over the coming weeks.

Queensland has shrugged off the shackles, as the Cinderella state of racing, with a magnificent winter carnival extending over five weeks.

The carnival is launched on Saturday, at Doomben, with an excellent program of nine races, with two Group 1 races, the BTC Cup of 1200 metres at weight for age with a stakes of $500, 000, and the Doomben Cup weight for age 2000 metres with stakes of $650,000, total stakes for the day amounts to $1.975 million.

Fields are strong for the nine race program, with the two Group 1have excellent fields leading into the $2 million Stradbroke Handicap to be decided on June 6.

Randwick trainer, John Sargent, is entitled to set his sights in the direction of the Queensland Oaks after results coming out of Newcastle earlier this week.

A winning double looked pretty impressive ‘be it’ both Maiden races, with Military Lady and Champion Stage.

Both were impressive in winning, there may be a leaning towards Military Lady, she won over 1850 metres, whereas Champion Stage scored at 1600 metres.

Blake Shinn rode them both, he is riding in brilliant form, neat in the saddle with light hands, reminiscent of Billy Cook and Bill Williamson, two best jockeys to ride in an era of champions.
