Good Win For Training Partners
The successful training partnership of David Brideoake and David Feek came to the fore again yesterday at Caulfield, with the impressive win of Griante in the Sportscover Insurers Plate.
Whilst she is not a top class filly at least there are no complaints about her consistency and while she retains her present form a trip to the paddock is not likely.
“There are some nice VOBIS races about that would suit her, we will press on, a mile looks to be her ideal distance,” said David Feek.
She handled the going well and was poised right behind the favourite River Delta, if there were any signs of that filly wilting she would find it.
River Delta was running on empty as the straight was entered, giving the impression she could not extend in the going, or is looking for a break.
Griante is by Good Journey, he stood at Cornerstone Stud in the 2012 season, but not advertised last season.
Good Journey is a more than useful sire evidenced by Happy Trails, a weight for age success, but generally has lacked the support he was entitled to.
The dam of Griante, Grand Strategy, is by Strategic, a former brilliant sprinter among the favourites at Darley .

Pressing Wins In A Breeze
Pressing put a warm feeling into what was a pretty miserable day when he turned in a super run to win the Listed Sky High Mt Dandenong Stakes at Caulfield.
You could have excused the long faces of connections when he was labouring on the railway side of the track, it would have required a good shot to have hit him with a cannon.
This was the second win of two runs at Caulfield, he certainly has some talent, however, his future is yet to be planned as to where he races next.
His astute trainer, Mick Price, has some tough decisions to be made; the J J Atkins Stakes is a option, that is a Group1 race that would put the icing on the cake.
“We have entered him for the Brisbane race, I believe he would be better suited over further ground at this stage, we feel sure he will run the mile but he has to train on, we don’t know how much more is left in the tank at this stage, “ said Price.
Pressing is by the Golden Slipper Stakes success Sebring, who is enjoying a great season at stud, out of Lamiraqui, her only win was at 1100 metres and she is by Choisir.
Irrespective of how you look at the pedigree it suggests speed, but let’s not forget Sebring did sire the ATC Derby winner Criterion.

Gotta Take Care Defies Age
Wild scenes greeted Gotta Take Care and his rider Harry Coffey as they returned to scale after winning the William Newton VC Handicap, honouring the name of a great Australian.
While Gotta Take Care is no candidate for a V C, however, he is entitled to a longevity award, rising 10 years of age and still going strong.
His record is quite remarkable, he doesn’t mind what they serve up to him, he just is as adaptable over the jumps as he is on the flat.
He just never gives up, yesterday was his 66th start for 17 wins and 18 placings, besides 14 hurdle starts for six wins and six placings, for total stake earnings of $1,173,877.
Gotta Take Care gets up in the last stride
He has proved a great money spinner for his owners Ian, Philip and Graeme Wood; they each wear ties from the same material as their racing colours.
The veteran performer was a long way behind on the home turn yesterday and like the boy with the barrow he had the job in front of him, and so did the inform apprentice, Harry Coffee.
When the horses were making their winning run by the clock tower Gotta Take Care was nowhere to be seen, it was only in the dying shadows of the post he poked his head in front that was sufficient to claim victory.

St Leger One Act Affair
Order Of The Sun made a one act affair of the St Leger to the point it was nothing more than a procession with the winner strolling in by seven lengths.
The only time anything got near to the winner was when the horses were returning to scale; otherwise it was a lack lustre affair.
Order Of The Sun’s record was not all that flash preparatory to the race but proved classes above those that he opposed in St Leger.
Chad Schofield rode a masterly race, he is simply brilliant on a front runner, he allows his mounts to find their natural rhythm, he is a very good rider for one so young.
The South Australian Derby looks the logical race now, set weights as was the St Leger, the only problem in Adelaide is there will need to be a change of rider as Chad Schofield will be under suspension.
When Gai Waterhouse sets a horse for any particular race she is never far astray, she is a great conditioner, her horses are hard fit, she does not do anything by half measures.
Order Of The Sun is raced by Sun Bloodstock Pty Ltd, the company is putting together a nice group of horses and are enjoying success.

Roller Coaster Continues For Hawkes
The Hawkes team are really firing at present; the stable is having a great run, their latest winner, Hebrung, turned in a nice race to score in the RSL Plate at Flemington yesterday.
He was first up after a break having finished fifth in a field of nine at Rosehill in early November.
There are still quite a number of nice races about that would suit him before the winter sets in and the tracks become heavy.
Whilst the winning margin was just a half head he was beginning to draw away, had the distance been much further the winning margin would have been greater when the post was reached.
The win reignited the previous successful trainer combination of the Hawkes training partnership and Dwayne Dunn, he has gone missing for a few months convalescing from a shoulder injury, he is back riding as well as ever.
Hebrung was specked a nice odds, whilst I Love It remained favourite throughout betting but didn’t do all that much in running.
Former boom two year old, Clevadude, showed a little pace for a short while but went missing when it was required to put in the hard yards.
