Rich Enuff Shows A Touch Of Class

Rich Enuff soon shrugged off his maiden status with an explosive win in the Essendon Nissan McKenzie Stakes.

He looks the real deal at this stage; his only previous run was coming off a third at Moonee Valley back in March.

It didn’t take him long to find the lead, Fast Cash may have got within a half length of him on the turn but it was only a short lived affair.

Rich Enuff is an exciting young horse with loads of potential and a good looking colt with it, he defeated a handy field in the McKenzie Stakes with obviously a lot in hand.

It was an excited trainer, Ken Keys, who greeted the colt on his return to scale, and while being the breeder, his wife Louise is a part owner, it doesn’t get much better than that.

Ken could be best described as a good honest battler, the first to arrive at the Cranbourne track in the morning and he last to leave.

Rich Enuff ‘s dam, Hotnuff, won just the one race but has a much better record as a brood mare, her only three foals to race have all won.

Hotnuff ‘s pedigree is interesting to say the least, it brings back a lot memories as her dam line three removed was Tullette, by Tulloch, the best three year old we have known.

Damien Oliver At His Best

Damien Oliver was seen at his best winning on Afleet Esprit in the Simpson Construction Plate at Moonee Valley.

Whilst the margin, be it slender, was impressive and a pointer she will get further as her Spring mission is the Thousand Guineas of 1600 metres.

There are two options for three year old fillies, both at Caulfield over 1400 metres, no doubt David Hayes has already pencilled those races in as a lead up to the Group 1 Guineas.

David Hayes was a bit shocked when she was so far back in the field that could well be a positive sign she needs further.

Cool Hero started favourite surprisingly as she could only manage to finish third behind Down The Hatch and Afleet Esprit at the previous meeting at Moonee Valley.

Sydney filly, Occitan, was a clear leader coming onto the course proper but was a spent force by the time the home turn was reached; she will find it hard to win a race on what we have seen of her here.

The Winding Up Of Patinack

The rise and fall of Patinack has been spectacular if nothing else, but there are no winners unless you include the auction houses.

Nathan Tinkler thought he could buy success, however, it is not a saleable item, never has been, you simply have to earn it and that all takes time.

If Tinkler had advisers, or acted on his own, the enterprise was doomed at the beginning, it could never have possibly worked, there was no strategy behind it, nothing more than a wild pipe dream.

He wanted to walk before he crawled, not always a good recipe for success, disaster is generally lurking not far away, as was in this case.

Thoroughbred breeding can be a slow tedious process, much slower than most imagine, there are no short cuts and no guarantees for success, it is all in the unknown.

Adelaide For The Valley

Moonee Valley Racing Club Chairman, Bob Scarborough, has issued an official invitation to Aidan O’Brien for his outstanding colt to compete in the Cox Plate.

He would be coming off a last start win in the Group 1 Secretariat Stakes, run over 2000 metres, at Arlington Park in Chicago.

Moonee Valley should not hold any fears for him as it has a longer run to the first turn than Arlington Park.

All of his three wins have been at 2000 metres, the Cox Plate distance looks ideal, he is capable of taking up a handy position and does have a good turn of foot at the end of his races.

The stake money for the race also looks attractive, nearly three times as much as his total stake earnings to date.

Star Rolling To Stay At W FA

Star Rolling will campaign at weight for age throughout the Spring after his win in the Peter Lawrence stakes.

His principal mission in the Spring is likely to be the Cox Plate, nothing is set in stone as yet, that looks to be the direction his joint trainers, Peter Morgan and Craig Widdison, favour.

His racing pattern doesn’t have to be altered, he is a freewheeling type of gelding that is definitely best suited when he is allowed to roll along in front.

That was the pattern in the Peter Lawrence Stakes, he allowed Zamorar to keep him company until nearing the home turn when that gelding surrendered

He was knocking on the door as a possible weight for age performer in the Autumn when he finished third to Fiorente in the Peter Young Stakes.

Star Rolling is a lightly raced gelding having had just 11 starts, the best of him is still in the future.

Imported entire, Spillway, turned in a nice run, he doesn’t need to improve much to win a decent race, he will be better when he gets out further.

Puissance De Lune was never going to win the race at any stage, and claims that he never had any cover is a poor excuse, when last in work he could have won from anywhere.
