More To Racing Than Just Luck
Barry Griffiths, and his wife Midge, are quite achievers when it comes to racing horses, and it is not all luck, the careful selection of buying yearlings has proved an outstanding success.
Pedigree is an important factor, generally he buys out of the middle market, Propelled was an exception, she was purchased for $125,000.
The filly is well over half way squaring the ledger and with VOBIS bonuses plus, there is now residual value as a brood mare eventually.
She is by Magnus, he is leaving a lot of winners, his daughter won so well, she will continue to improve, there are better races about for her.

Punters In A Happy Frame Of Mind
Four favourites, winning in succession at Moonee Valley on Saturday last, had punters in a happy frame of mind.
The last of the quartet, Kingdom Of Dreams, may ultimately have the most potential; however, he is in need of improving his manners as he gave Damian Lane a hard time when mounting up.
Kingdom Of Dreams is a gelding and for a good reason, if he was a colt he would be a proper handful as he is inbred to Danehill 2 X 3, which is really too close for comfort.
For all that he does have a pretty good strike rate, 6 wins from 13 starts is quite respectable, and as Mark Kavanagh said, “he is getting better all the time.”

Finding It Hard To Win.
Connections of Coronation Shallen were ready to celebrate after her number 3 appeared on the semaphored screen as the winner of race six, the Melbourne Signage Concepts Handicap.
However, chocolates were soon changed for boil lollies when the photo finish revealed that number 5, Chiquada, was the official winner of the race.
Any malfunction in the judge’s box was soon rectified, with the big majority of racegoers not aware of the incident.
The winner, Chiquada, is prepared at Cranbourne by Melbourne Cup winning trainer, Brian Jenkins, he won the Cup with Jezabeel 1998

Double For Sire Magnus
Magnus Reign presented his sire, Magnus, with a winning double and a winning treble for jockey, Damian Lane, after the win in The McMahons Dairy Handicap.
Lane is riding in great form since coming from Perth; he is a likeable young man with a big future ahead of him, he is a sure candidate for a jockey’s premiership ultimately.
Magnus is by far the most consistent sire in Victoria, he has had his knockers for reasons unknown, yet his strike rate of winners to runners is a shade over 62 per cent.
Darren Weir went to the Valley optimisticly after Magnus Reign worked on Tuesday morning under regular track rider, John Allen, he reported the gelding as spot on

Smiles All Round For Trainer
There were smiles all round in the winner’s circle after the photo finish result, when Shockemohle’s number appeared on the infield semaphore board, as the winner of the Sportingbet Hanndicap.
“We have this one alright,” said Brett Scott, after being involved in a close finish in an earlier race on the program.
The race was marred by a nasty fall when Massiyn, the imported horse, suffered a heart attack, flinging his rider, Thomas Sadler, into a mass of flaying hooves.
Fortunately Sadler was not seriously injured, he was on the side of luck, he will be back riding within a few days.
The winner, Schockemohle, turned in a nice performance; he has improved greatly since his last run at Werribee.
His trainer, Brett Scott, will look at similar races now for the gelding; however, he may have to step up in class if his connections are looking for the same odds.
