Bengal Cat a likely improver

Bengal Cat looks a definite improver, a lightly raced filly that may be seen to further advantage when she gets over more ground.

She was never far away than four or fifth, with Craig Williams, fresh from Royal Ascot, giving her an easy run in transit, winning the Murray Cox Handicap at Flemington.

It takes a good filly to beat a male when he is in form, and she gave the odds on favourite, El Greco, a recent Flemington winner, a start, claiming him right on the line.

The merit in her win shows she is definitely improving with each outing, she hasn’t reached her limit yet, there is more to come, she is a promising filly.

That was the improvement John Sadler was expecting, the winners had dried up a bit of late, however, the stable looks to be back in swing again.

Bengal Cat has the maiden off her back, and no better place to achieve that than at headquarters, she appreciated the long run in, going to the line strongly.

Sadler is hoping to bring the filly back to Flemington in two weeks for a Black Type race, the logical decision then would be a break, and aim for the spring.

Breeding Analysis --- Bengal Cat, is by Bernadini, a big percentage of his winners have been at 1400 metres, siring 64 winners this season.

His dam Miaow is American bred, she is by Storm Cat, her dam, Squeak, was a useful mare winning six times with over $1.2 million in stakes, however, her breeding is not all that flash.

Eddie Creighton, who suffered injuries in a race fall at Warrnambool, from The Walrus in the first race, has a suspected broken arm and concussion.

He was treated at the track by medics before being transferred to the Warrnambool Base Hospital.

However, Creighton had a seizure whilst being assessed at the hospital, according to Victorian Jockey’s Association chief executive Des O’Keeffe.

The young rider was transferred to the Alfred Hospital for further scans.

Des O’Keeffe is the jockey’s lifeline in Victoria, he does a marvellous job, their welfare is paramount with him.

Only the best for Silent Achiever

Multiple Group 1 winner, Silent Achiever, has left for Europe where she will be courted by the stars of the international stallion world.

Owned by Valachi Downs principal Kevin Hickman, the O’Rielly mare embarked on the second stage of her career on Tuesday evening when she was flown to England for her upcoming date with the unbeaten galloper Frankel.

“We want to breed to Southern Hemisphere time so she has been under lights to extend the daylights hours for her,”Valachi manager Jonathan Scully said.

"She’s got a good coat on her and we’re looking at an early September cover, the idea at the moment is if the resulting foal is an early one, the mare would be covered again in the UK."

“Galileo, Dansili and Sea The Stars are stallions that have all been talked about for her.”

Silent Achiever was prepared throughout her career by Roger James for her Group 1 victories in the New Zealand Derby and the New Zealand Stakes at home, and the Ranvet Stakes and The B MW in Sydney.

The winner of 10 of her 36 starts and more than $3.6 million Silent Achiever was unplaced in the Group1 Doomben Cup in May, at her final race appearance.

“She didn’t put on too much weight in the meantime, about 30 kgs, and given they can lose 20 kgs on the flight over there she will arrive in good condition, “Scully said.—NZ Racing Desk

Lady Cecil to retire.

Lady Cecil, widow of the legendary Sir Henry Cecil, is to retire from training at the conclusion of the English flat season.

It will be a hard decision to leave Warren Place, a magnificent racing establishment on the Moolton Road in Newmarket, the horse capitol of the world.

“Training to me has always been working with the horses and the team here at Warren Place that is the reason I have continued since Henry died two years ago,” she said.

“I would like to thank the owners and those that have supported me, they have been fantastic,” she added.

Speculation regarding the future of Warren Place has never been far away since the death of Sir Henry Cecil.

The yard is believed to be have been purchased by Sheikh Mohammed, the Goldolphin founder will install a new trainer.

Last season Lady Cecil claimed three Group winners, with Noble Mission taking out Tattersalls Gold Cup, Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud, and the Qipco Champion Stakes.

Mawahibb Wins In A Breeze

A wide barrier position made no difference to the result of the Silver Thomas Hanley at Moonee Valley, when Mawahibb proved a class above his rivals, leading all the way to an easy win.

Given he had race experience in Sydney, and the majority of the field were unraced, he was backable to the surprise of most punters.

The win was made a little easier when recent Seymour winner, Parmalove, missed the start by a couple of lengths, but whether it would have made any difference to the result is most unlikely.

The Hawkes team are making a habit of slipping one or two over the border on occasions, with excellent results, and while Sydney tracks are becoming rain affected, Melbourne is the ideal alternative.

Mawahibb did it at both ends of the race; he came over from the outside gate to lead and was running on strongly when the post was reached.

He is a good stamp of colt with plenty of strength about him, he was an expensive yearling, it is always satisfying to get that first win on the board.

There is a fair bit of pedigree about the colt, being by Magic Albert from Eye For Fun, hence he is a half brother to the Golden Slipper success, Moss Fun.

Late Scratching Of Favourite

The late scratching of favourite, Noela’s Choice, caused a stir when stewards ordered her withdrawal from Friends Of Epworth Handicap at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

When questioned, the Chairman of Stewards, Terry Bailey, said, “we were not satisfied that the mare had received pre race treatment on race day, as there were traces of white residue around her mouth.”

Noela Choice was the pre post favourite at $2.90, however, after the scratching, Coronation Shallan finally finished up as favourite at $3.40, the best backed runner against her was Flying Hostess at $4.80.

Coronation Shallan gave her supporters a good sight in running, sitting outside of the leader, Prie Dieu, however, she did not respond as well in the straight as expected.

It was left to Every Faith to come from behind, under hard riding from Dwayne Dunn, to score by a neck from the fast finishing First Bloom, an improvement on her previous form.

Barbara Saunders, spokesperson for the family that race the mare, was a bit concerned about the wide barrier, however, that was no concern for Dunn, he had his mount well placed as heads were turned for home.

The mare seldom runs a poor race at Moonee Valley. She is by Not A Single Doubt from a daughter of the great Zabeel, ultimately she will make a nice brood mare.
