Le Remas Shows A Touch Of Class

Le Remas made the transition from a restricted rating class 70 midweek race at Sandown, to open company with a minimum of fuss, when winning the Swettenham Stud John Dillon Stakes at Caulfield.

The gelding has now answered the challenge to Listed company, the bar will now be raised another notch with the impending agenda likely to be the weight for age time honoured Sportingbet C F Orr, also at Caulfield over the same distance, 1400 metres.

All that Le Remas required was time, he always had shown the ability, even in the paddock as a yearling; it was just a matter of waiting for him to put it all together.

He was gelded, not by choice, but by necessity, he was almost unmanageable, he would never have raced as an entire, it would have proved a useless exercise.

Even now it takes two to lead the headstrong gelding around the paddock area, once the jockey is mounted the clerk of the course takes over, it’s then off to the starting gate where he finds his comfort zone.

The wheel of fortune has turned for Brian McKnight and the whole family, they conduct a top racing operation at Maldon, with excellent facilities, the win of the gelding was rewarding for the time and patience that has put into him.

Confidence soared earlier in the week when Le Remas was taken down to Ballarat to work on the straight track, and ridden by Jacob Rule, declaring he would win the Sportingbet John Dillon Stakes.

As the race unfolded it was the perfect ride from Dean Yendell, he allowed the gelding to stride up on the outside of British General as they topped the rise, at the back of the course he was in front soon after.

The rider was comfortable on the horse, and the horse was comfortable under him until the home turn, when Under The Eiffel threw out a determined challenge that looked as if it would succeed.

However, Le Remas would not surrender, he looked beaten three or four times in the straight, using an old boxing term, “he got off the floor to win,” that takes courage
